4 Reasons to Move to the Country
Having lived in the city for my first 22 years I still look out of my window in awe of the countryside and how different life is. My late childhood and early teens were spent in the Scottish mountains and sometimes the Italian Alps, so when I was old enough to know that I could move away from the city with no detrimental effects to our life; I did, with no idea how much it would enrich it.
1 – You’re richer apparently.
When my friend came to stay from the city she shared some figures and apparently people are £20000 better off when they live in the country. Whether the figures are right or just a feeling of being better off I absolutely agree. The air is different, the sounds and the fact that in 4 minutes you can feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere; there’s no better alternative. As well I suppose as with only half an hour to the nearest city and an hour from friends and family there’s really no downside. You can live in a much nicer area for much less price.
2 – Your stress levels are lower.
We have been lucky in so far as we have always managed to have amazing views. Even if your house doesn’t have them, walk for 5 minutes and you have the freedom of fields, lochs and mountains. If ever there was a view to destress, it’s that of a loch.
3 – Having or being surrounded by animals is normal.
Having always had a big love of animals, it makes me so excited to see sheep and cows and even 8 years on this is still big excitement. There is no noise, no traffic, nothing, so when the sheep in the field 20 yards away do make a noise, you feel like they’re beside you. The neighbours ride their horses along the street and listening to the clip clop of horses feet is a noise I’ll never tire of. When the decision came to get chickens, it wasn’t an issue, but the right one
4 – The air is clean
The air is clean and the world is full of grass and trees, just what you need to relax and heal your body. Your lungs are happier and your body is happier.
Collect the eggs, pull potatoes out of the ground, walk to the forest, watch the horse trotting past your house, look along the road for the view of the mountains. Today I’m feeling lucky.
